My First Solo Flight

Although I learnt in general aviation I travelled to the Moruya Aero Club to become familiar with a recreational Skyfox Gazelle and on my 15th birthday, the 13th of January 2009, I flew solo.

I was the youngest pilot in Australia and only a week later I was reading about myself in the local newspaper. This is an achievement that I am very proud of, to say the least.

Flying at least once a fortnight for the next twelve months I reached the next goal I had set myself when I flew solo in a GA aircraft on my 16th birthday, and went on to obtain my private pilot’s licence just after my 17th birthday.

AOPA Scholarship

I was honoured to be a successful recipient of the 2010 Australian Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association Scholarship.

This $6000 scholarship was a great assistance in helping me complete the next stage of my training and I am extremely grateful to AOPA for their support.

In 2011 I successfully finished my HSC and on the day after my 18th birthday I left home to live in Brisbane for two months to study my Commercial subjects with Bob Tait Aviation.

Commercial Pilots Licence

In April 2012, three months after turning 18, I achieved my Commercial Pilot’s licence.

This has enabled me to undertake my current employment with Merimbula Air Services.?My parents have fully supported me all throughout my flying and I have been very fortunate, as part of the learning experience, to travel to AirVenture Oshkosh both in 2010 and 2011, further broadening my horizons as to what is possible within the aviation industry.

During AirVenture I have met many inspiring pilots including Mike Goulian, Sean Tucker and Bob Carlton and I was humbled to meet the great Bob Hoover.

I am a member of our local Frog’s Hollow Aero Club and enjoy many hours of conversation with the older members, listening and learning from their knowledge and experience.

I am proud to have learnt at a young age, proud of my achievements so far and excited at the prospects the future holds for me. I live for aviation, and I know that it is this passion, along with my dedication and commitment that will determine the successful outcome of my next endeavour.
